I went into Sephora looking to replenish my lipstick collection, but instead, I came out with the new Urban Decay Afterdark Eyeshadow Palette, (and a new lipstick and lipliner, but that is besides the point). This new palette is jewel-toned and sparkly, and honestly the last thing I thought I would have purchased for myself. I am usually drawn to warmer, natural colours, and don’t usually get too flashy on my eyes.

But this time around, I was drawn to the sparkle.
What first drew me into the Afterdark palette were the metallics; Off Duty, Sinful, and SuperSonic. These are colours any black woman could pull off. Then, I looked at the jewel tones. The first thing I felt while testing then, was curiosity. I buy a lot of makeup, but I’ve never gone outside of the box in terms of colour choices (something I’ve always wanted to try doing). The blues in this palette are so striking that I thought “these would be perfect pigments to experiment with!”.
But it was the the colour that Urban Decay describes as a “light metallic pinky-peach with gold shift” that finally sold me on the palette. This colour is Scene.
At first glance, Scene isn’t a colour that I thought would call my name. At least, that was until the makeup artist at Sephora said how great it would look on me as a highlighter. She was so adamant that it would compliment my darker skin tone, that she grabbed a brush and my face and went to town. (Maybe this would have bothered another woman, but I found her confidence in her knowledge admirable). I didn’t take a selfie, but from the swatch below you can see how Scene would be a bomb highlighter. (Second to the right)

Left to Right: Paralyzed, Fringe, Lounge, Backfire, Druggie, Off Duty, Sinful, Supersonic, Scene, Alter
I can’t wait to experiment and show you all the results! What do you think of the new Urban Decay Afterdark Eyeshadow Palette? What are your favourite palettes to recommend? Let me know in the comments!

I love Urban Decay. They make amazing eyeshadows. I personally believe that melanin babes can wear colourful eyeshadows really well. Bright colours look great on us. I highly recommend the moondust palette x
